WHAT IS Youth2Youth?
Youth2Youth is a communications class for teens and pre-teens (middle school and high school). This class strives to teach youth how to appropriately, successfully, and fully use their voice. Communication is an art combining listening, understanding, and speaking with a voice of purpose. We practice this throughout the class in the activities we do and our interactions with other people in the group. Y2Y is a class that gives tools we can use throughout our life, tools that allow us to connect with and understand the people in our world. The class helps to explain how society views the youths in our world today. The class’s environment is one of learning, growing, and support. This creates an experience that is positive, powerful, and productive.
How do I get involved?
Youth2Youth has an open-door policy. This means that your parent/guardian doesn’t need to attend the bigger group for you to join. Classes are free, two hours each week, for ten weeks and are offered four times a year. Classes take place from 5:45-7:45 at the Albany First United Methodist church located at 1115 28th Ave SW on Thursday nights. You do not have to attend all the classes, but if you attend seven out of a ten-week session, you will receive a certificate.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Youth2Youth is a safe place for teens to learn and have fun. Confidentiality is a complex version of “What’s said here, stays here” only you are able to talk about the lessons, but when a name comes up, simply to say he/she/they or her/him/them. This is there to help you feel safe.
In addition to confidentiality, we have rules based on law and safety, and guidelines that the group creates together to help us feel safe as well.
