Groups
Groups are designed to support individuals and families in learning new information and to build skills, all within an inviting setting.
Below are the different group settings that we currently offer. If a group isn’t right for you, take a look at our Peer Support options which are tailored to the individual or family. You can also contact the office to speak with someone who can help you find the best option.

The Parenting Today Forward (PTF) with Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) helps provide parents and caregivers with a better understanding of behaviors and tools to help parents and kids work together to find solutions.
Our Foundations curriculum teaches:
- The seven skills sets
- Parenting Today Forward
- Getting out of a shame and blame culture
- Collaborative based problem solving
The group has an open-door policy, which means people don’t have to come to the first session to join. You can join at any time and attend one, or all of them.
Groups are participatory and will include discussions and activities. These are designed to be a support for both you and your family.
This is a peer support group led by O2A volunteers. We will walk alongside you, as we work together on understanding and implementing a new culture. This is a great opportunity to connect with other families and individuals who are struggling with similar issues.
Once you register for a group, there is nothing else you need to do. Thanks to our amazing sponsors and volunteers, each session is free. Visit our Calendar & Registration page to find one that best suits your needs and schedule!
How often does each session start and how often do they meet?
Each session during fall, winter, and spring last for 10 weeks, with one group per week. For our summer session, it will last 5 weeks, with 2 sessions per week.
How long does each session last?
Individual groups are 2 hours long with a break in the middle.
Cities where the groups are currently offered?
We hope to be able to add groups in additional cities as volunteers and resources become available.
The Skill-Building Groups are skill development groups for individuals who are interested in learning more about various skills. Some advanced groups may require completion of the Parenting Today Forward: Foundations group before taking the group; these will be clearly identified.
The focus of each Skill-Building Group is for developing skills in a specific area. For example: Anger Management, Skill Sets, Boundaries, Communication, Understanding Co-dependency. The sessions will cover information about the skill area and provide opportunities to apply what people have learned in a safe environment. These sessions are offered throughout the year and typically last for 10 weeks. (Some classes may be longer or shorter.)
If you want to register, visit our Calendar & Registration page to register. If you have any questions about whether this group is right for you, please contact us. We’re happy to help!
